Larnaka Holds Mass Wedding

A mass wedding of 154 couples from Israel and Russia was held in Larnaka on June 17, making it the largest number of civil marriage ceremonies held in a single day.

Organised by the Larnaka Municipality, the Larnaka Tourism Board and in cooperation with the tour operator Natan Uretsky, the ceremony took place at the newly built Larnaka Medieval Castle Square.

The couples were welcomed firstly at the port by local girls who sprinkled their hands with rosewater – a Cypriot wedding tradition that symbolises the couple’s fresh start. From there they were taken to the square to receive their flower bouquets before the marriages took place.

The ceremony – held in English and Russian - was opened with a welcome address from Larnaka’s mayor, Mr Andreas Moyseos, the Chairman of the Larnaka Tourism Board, Mr Dinos Lefkaritis and the CTO Board Member Mr George Moysi.

After the couples were officially wed, the marriage certificates, commemorative gifts, traditional ‘loukoumi’ sweet (Cyprus Delight) and drinks were offered. A traditional Cypriot dance show provided wedding entertainment to all who attended and the event was a great success, enjoyed by both the happy couples and the guests.
